The comedian above, Drew Thomas, has a funny wedding joke on how men and women react differently to the news of a wedding engagement.
When women hear the news, it’s a happy occasion. But the way men tell it, the news is like something he’s been diagnosed with. Listen to his bit. Very funny stuff.
But in fact, the joke is on the men. Marriage is the best thing that can ever happen to a man. Doctors, sociologists, and economists have all studied the phenomenon of marriage, and the results are irrefutable. Marriage makes men wealthier, healthier, and happier.
For example, men who marry and stay married accumulate 10 times the net assets in a lifetime than their divorced or never married counterparts. The source for this data? The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That amounts to nearly a $300,000 lifetime premium for married men. Their incomes are higher and they are much less likely to ever live in poverty.
Married men are twice as likely to call them themselves “very happy” compared to unmarried men. According to the Institute of Family Studies, married men live longer and are healthier than their married counterparts. They are less likely to commit suicide or be lost to “deaths of despair” from drug and alcohol overdoses.
Nothing funny about that. Marriage is serious business for men interested in greater fulfillment in life in terms of increased happiness, health, and wealth.
